7 Dec, 10:30am Coastal Walk & Talk
Hi there,
Now we’ve completed the task of gathering information, it’s time to engage with the actual environment we’ve been talking about. This piece of coastline is quite dynamic. It hosts a huge variety of human activities but it’s also naturally diverse. There are lots of really positive aspects about the way it’s looked after and some maybe not so positive. By taking a holistic view we can better understand the possibilities and what we might do next.
It’s been the coming together of minds and different experience that’s allowed us to reach this point. This will be a great chance to gather and meet various local experts, ask questions and just as importantly, share your own knowledge and insights through questions and discussion – and hopefully a nice walk. It’ll be low tide, so we can stay on the beach for the duration.
Please check out Village Zero who are co-hosting this event with us. A wonderfully eclectic group of people invested in the sustainable development of this unique and valuable coastline.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Cheers,
Simon.
Would you like to join us for a walk and talk?
We'd love you to join us to explore the coastline between Sandringham and Black Rock beginning at the Jetty Road Car Park (Sandringham) https://maps.app.goo.gl/qhLoBGLY4Rbfvu5q7 and ending just south of Black Rock.
GETTING THERE AND BACK: If you're coming by train, it's about 10 minute walk from the station to the car park. Note, there are buses back from Black Rock to Sandringham every 20 minutes around the middle of the day and the walk should take about 2 hours. It should be low tide, so we will be able to walk along the beach for the entire length.
PARKING: There is free on-street parking at Georgiana St and other residential streets nearby.
ATTIRE: Dress for the weather.
Meet and learn
This will be a great chance to meet some of our community members and experts, and learn from each other about our coastline (its history, geology, nature and coastal processes).
During this walk, we would also love your help to discuss and record where people are doing their favourite Activities.
By mapping these, we can relate what people enjoy doing e.g. swimming, sailing etc, to specific habitat features that we've mapped, and the values you've collected already. We will bring maps and clipboards. It'll be a very simple, informal bit of information gathering but of great value to the next phase of the project.
